Started in 1985 by the Bogus Basin Hillclimb Association and sanctioned by the Northwest Hillclimb Association, it took place on the road to Bogus Basin Ski Resort. It was a great venue, as the lodge at the top made for the perfect stay. Many parties were held on Saturday eve around the hot tubs! Read Carl Somerton’s invitation (below) for the 1990 event as he describes the “party atmosphere” The last year for the hill was 2016.
It was an extremely challenging hill, a driver’s hill. Length was 1.9 miles with a climb of 500+ feet. The road was originally paved in the late sixties and was in need of some help by the eighties. There were some patches and bumps. Several places such as “Sky Corner” and the “Rocks” were among many areas that demanded respect. The road maintenance crews decided to chip seal the surface in 1991 which usually is a great help-the next year.. Unfortunately, they completed the job just the week before the 1991 climb which made for a rocky mess! I remember putting sticky vinyl on the side of our newly painted car to try to protect it.
The Porsche Club (PCA) also ran Bogus Basin as a PCA event. I found several articles on their events. The last I found was in 2016 called the “Bogus Basin Bacchanalia” Sand and Sage PCA and some Canadian Hillclimbers staged the events.
