Colorado

When Colorado is mentioned of course the first hillclimb event we think of is Pikes Peak Hillclimb. What a great event. It began in 1916 on a dirt & gravel road leading up the 14,110 foot high Pikes Peak Mountain. It continues to this day, but now the road is fully paved. The Pikes Peak International Hillclimb Association (ppihc.org) is the organizer.

The Colorado Hillclimb Association (CHA) also has a full slate of hillclimbs and the longest running hill that they organize is Land’s End. It began also in 1916, then was interrupted for the war, ran again in 1940-41 and stopped for WWII. It resumed again in the 80s -90s, under the CHA organization, and has been run now since 2001.

There is information out there about Pikes Peak, and also the Colorado Hillclimb Association events. Because of their excellent online presence, and websites, I will just touch on their current events.
